Dorothea Mackeller’s iconic poem ‘My Country” described Australia’s ragged mountain ranges as one of our true treasures, and Victoria’s High Country must be the highlight. The backdrop for tales of bushrangers, iconic movies and more, the High Country is a vast area of Victoria just waiting to be explored.
In one of our limited walks by Take Shape Adventures, we will be taking on some iconic high country hiking with the Mount Cobbler walk. After a drive up Friday night, camp at the foothills of the ranges so you can get an early start on the first morning up the challenging climb of Muesli Spur, then spend most of the day wandering along the plateau to our campsite at Lake Cobbler. We’ll grab a swim or just dip your feet in the refreshing waters of Lake Cobbler, then visit the nearby Dandongadale Falls to gaze across massive vista before a yummy lakeside dinner.
Day two begins with an easy climb up to the summit then dump your rucksacks for the short climb to the summit of Mt Cobbler. After morning tea and feeling on top of the world, we’ll grab our bags for some pleasant walking through alpine eucalypts before making the descent down Speculation Track back to the start. The crew at Take Shape Adventures love sharing bush walks such as this with you all. It is truly something special to get out there and achieve something like this, and the sense of accomplishment will leave you buzzing for weeks after and feeling ready to take on any challenge life throws at you.
Although this walk will be a challenge (it is Grade 4 so you will need some bushwalking experience), we make sure you feel as comfortable as possible with a supportive group around you. We provide all the nutritious meals to keep you going along the way, and will teach you mindfulness to make the most out of being outdoors in the stunning high country scenery.

What to bring:
- Large drink bottle, or two normal drink bottles on a hot day
- A small backpack
- Medication, camera, etc…
- Hat or beanie depending on weather
- Sturdy walking boots, trail shoes or runners
- Walking clothes, we generally recommend shorts or light pants with layers for your upper body
