We have chosen Lake Eildon as the location as it is a favourite of ours! There are stunning walking tracks, and of course, the nice cool water to enjoy a swim in to cool down. Above all, this is a chance for you and your child to spend some quality time together before they head back to school and everything goes crazy for another busy year.
At this stage we at only excepting one child per parent, the main reasons for this is that the parent will need to carry the load of gear, food and water for both of you, and most hiking tents are only for two people. If you are the parent of twins, or children close together in age, or there is no supervision at home for your second child, please email us for special consideration. We do have other parent and child events on the calendar if you want to book in some one on one time with each of your children.

This is a great way to get your kids to accompany you on an overnight hike, share your passion and love for fresh air, sunshine, being fit and importantly enjoying screen free time. This walk is the perfect opportunity to teach the kids that there is plenty of ways to have fun outdoors and without technology. We are only going to become more and more technology driven, and the earlier kids can learn how fantastic switching off can be, the better it will be for them long term.
Better yet perhaps you are interested in getting into bushwalking and camping yourself, and need a partner in crime! Who better to have for adventures than your child!
This adventure is for kids aged between 10 – 18. If we get enough demand there is a possibility of splitting the group so we could do a younger and an older group, making the walks that little bit more age appropriate. Regardless both walking options will be fun, and a great challenge for everyone.
We have 2 proposed walks that lead to the same campsite, one has a hill, (although not a scary one!) and the other is lake walking. We will see what walk we do depend on the age and mix of kids who sign up.
•Option 1: 6-8km – Grade 2, lake walk
•Option 2: 8-10km – Grade 3, hill walk.
We have enough gear to fully deck out 12 people, however, WE DO NOT LOAN SLEEPING BAGS. we do have smaller bags, lightweight hiking tents and sleeping mats that we can loan out, This is all included in your fee.
Where possible please bring what you have gear wise, if you aren’t sure about any of your gear get in touch! We can answer any question you might have. To have a look at a pack list, please click here.
You will need to keep your bags down to a minimum as we will need help carrying the food in, but between us all this shouldn’t be any more than 2-3kg for women 5-6kg for men. Although this is part of the challenge of bushwalking, we want to make sure that everyone feels confident this is something they can achieve.
We prepare all the healthy real food and bring the cooking gear. We are parents to 4 children and realise that they can be a little picky, we will ignore this to the best of our ability ;). However, we will provide yummy snacks like slices, biscuits and lollies, and hide the vegetables in Bolognese and rice or pasta dishes so they will have no idea.
There is no drinking water at Mountaineer campsite, if we are looking like water will be an issue carrying enough in, we have the option of organising a water drop, this will help keep bag weights down, meaning you can carry more of the load of gear, and maybe add a little wine (for after the kids all go to bed, and the adults have their own fun!)
