Grampians Walking Escape
Escape to one of Australia's most spectacular mountain landscapes and discover why the Grampians leaves such a lasting impression on everyone who visits. Towering sandstone cliffs, hidden canyons, rugged mountain peaks, native wildlife and breathtaking lookouts combine to create a hiking destination unlike anywhere else in Victoria. Over four unforgettable days, we'll take you beyond the postcard views and into the heart of Gariwerd (the Grampians National Park), where every trail reveals another incredible panorama and every summit is rewarded with that unmistakable "wow" moment.
This is more than just a hiking trip—it's a chance to reconnect with nature, challenge yourself, and share the adventure with a fantastic group of like-minded people. Stand high above Halls Gap on Chautauqua Peak, squeeze through the famous Silent Street, wander the towering walls of the Grand Canyon, soak in the iconic views from the Pinnacle, explore the wild northern Grampians beneath the world-renowned Taipan Wall, and finish with the spectacular summit of Boronia Peak. From peaceful bush tracks and dramatic rock scrambling to sweeping mountain vistas stretching as far as the eye can see, every day showcases a completely different side of this remarkable national park.
Best of all, we've taken care of everything. Stay three nights in comfortable Halls Gap accommodation, enjoy freshly prepared lunches and delicious dinners, and let our experienced guides handle the logistics while you simply focus on walking, laughing and making memories. Itinerary
Day 1 Day 1
Depart Melbourne CBD at 9:00am and enjoy the drive west to the spectacular Grampians National Park. Arriving in Halls Gap around lunchtime, we'll enjoy lunch together before setting off on our first walk to stretch the legs. This afternoon we hike to the stunning Chautauqua Peak, winding through native bushland to impressive rock outcrops and panoramic views over Halls Gap and the surrounding mountain ranges. It's the perfect introduction to the region and a great way to settle into the weekend. Walk: Chautauqua Peak circuit, approx. 6km, 2 hours, Grade 3. After the walk we'll check into our accommodation, freshen up and enjoy a relaxed group dinner.
Day 2 Day 2
Today we explore the Grampians' most famous walking trails on a spectacular full-day hike through the Wonderland Range. Beginning with a steady climb, the trail rewards us with incredible scenery as we pass through the remarkable Grand Canyon, squeeze through the narrow passage of Silent Street, and enjoy breathtaking views from the iconic Pinnacle and Lakeview Lookout. Our guides will carry lunch, allowing us to enjoy a full day immersed in one of Australia's most celebrated hiking destinations. Expect excellent walking trails, a few stair sections and unforgettable scenery across this dramatic sandstone landscape. Walk: Pinnacle, Grand Canyon, Silent Street & Lakeview Lookout circuit, approx. 14km, 9:00am–3:00pm, Grade 3–4. Return to the accommodation mid-afternoon for some well-earned downtime before enjoying a pre-dinner grazing platter, snacks and a drink together before dinner.
Day 3 Day 3
Today we venture into the quieter northern reaches of the Grampians, an area far less visited but home to some of the park's most spectacular scenery. We'll enjoy magnificent views from Mount Stapylton, visit the world-famous Taipan Wall climbing area and experience the rugged beauty that makes this section so unique. Our guides will provide lunch while we enjoy a full day exploring this incredible landscape. The walk begins over rocky terrain before joining well-formed trails through classic Grampians bushland. For those wanting an extra challenge, there may be time to tackle the optional return climb of Mount Zero (2.5km), the northernmost peak in the Grampians and the starting point of the renowned Grampians Peaks Trail. Walk: Mount Stapylton region, approx. 10km, Grade 3–4 (optional Mount Zero extension). After our hike we'll return to Halls Gap for our final evening together and enjoy a well-deserved group dinner.
Day 4 Day 4
After an early breakfast we'll check out of our accommodation before setting off for one last Grampians adventure. This morning's hike takes us to the summit of Boronia Peak, following well-formed walking trails through native bushland before finishing with a fun section of rock scrambling to the summit. From the top we'll enjoy spectacular views back across Halls Gap, Lake Bellfield and the surrounding Grampians ranges—the perfect farewell to this remarkable landscape. Walk: Boronia Peak, approx. 10km, Grade 3. After our hike we'll return to Halls Gap for a well-earned late lunch before beginning the journey back to Melbourne, arriving into Melbourne CBD at approximately 4:00–5:00pm.
