Morocco
OVERVIEW
Immerse yourself in the sights, smells and sounds of Morocco. From lush green forests, to the High Atlas Mountains onto the vast desert, casbahs and markets. Journey through time as we explore, hike, taste and experience ancient Morocco through to modern day Morocco. Experience and see how some traditions have stuck (especially on our journey through traditional villages) whereas some regions have advanced into the modern world.
This unique, tailor-made trip with a highly experienced local guide explores the vast and varied mysteries that Morocco is renowned for; rich culture and history, breathtaking architecture and landscapes, with authentic activities and a mouth-watering cuisine to explore! Our adventure starts in the vibrant city of Marrakesh, and from there we traverse the snow capped Atlas Mountain peaks and valleys to the Sahara Desert, what an introduction to this beautiful country. We end our tour back at Casablanca.
There are two options for the hiking on the trip; one more challenging option is to summit Mt Toubkal (grade 4 to 5) and the other moderate option is to experience treks through the valleys (grade 3). You can decide which one you’d like to choose closer to the trip.

Trip Highlights
Itinerary
Marhaba! Welcome to Morocco! On arrival at Airport, you will be greeted by your in-Country host who will be with you for the duration of your stay and available 24 hours a day. Your tour guide and in-country host is from the Atlas Mountains and a highly experienced guide. He has been leading tours and adventures all over Morocco for several years and has an unparalleled knowledge of his country that he is looking forward to sharing with you.
Arrive and transfer to our hotel/riad, stretch your legs with a short guided walk through the medina in Marrakesh, and enjoy a welcome dinner.
Today we’ll leave Marrakesh behind and drive across the plains towards Tahanaoute, with awesome views of valleys and the Atlas Mountains along the way. Arriving at Imlil village, which is 1740 meters above sea level (approximately 4.5 hours). We’ll then have a few hours hike to the mountain base in the village of Aremd (2000 metres above sea level). At the end of the day, stretch your legs with a gentle orientation and walk around Aremd. Your accommodation tonight is a gite, a traditional village house with dormitory-style rooms that sleep around eight people. Rooms are furnished in traditional Amazigh (Berber) style with low couches (which can be used as beds), tables, carpets and cushions. On warm nights it’s often possible to sleep out on the terrace under the stars.
This morning you begin your ascent of Mt Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak. From Armed the trail crosses the floodplain of the Ait Mizane Valley, before climbing steeply in a zigzag up the mountainside. Along the way, pass the pilgrimage site of Sidi Chamarouch, home to the tomb of the local marabout (Muslim holy man). From here, climb steeply through a series of switchbacks and traverse the flank of the valley above the river. Arrive at Toubkal Base Camp at Neltner (3207 metres above sea level). Enjoy a hearty dinner and make sure you get plenty of sleep before the big ascent day tomorrow.
An alternative route or day walk will be provided for those not wanting to head up to the summit. This will vary depending on group requirements.
Embrace an early start this morning and tackle the rocky terrain that leads to the summit of Mt Toubkal. At 4167 meters above sea level, this is truly the roof fof North Africa. Take in the beautiful silence of the morning while you make the final climb, which can involve some scrambling. Your effort is rewarded by superb views from the summit, which on a clear day can include the entire Atlas Mountain range and the Sahara Desert. After a rest at the summit and time spent marveling at the view, make your way back down to Aremd where both the summit and those who headed through the valleys will meet up again.
This morning, we can start a little later as yesterday was a big day and we will now continue downhill to Aremd village where we have lunch, in the afternoon you can relax and get ready for the rest of your trip.
Hike down from Aremd village to imlil and transfer from Ait Benhaddou Kasbahs. At the end of the day take a 2 hour walk through the Kasbah.
Today we have a drive to transfer from Ait Benhaddou to Todra Gorges, crossing the High Atlas Mountains. Arrive and check in at the Kasbah hotel located in the heart of the gorges. At the end of the afternoon, we will be going for a 2 hour walk in the oasis. This is our opportunity to discover how locals farm in the oasis and learn about the southern architecture and lifestyle
Walk then relax! Today is the ideal time to get both some active and passive time so we’ll head off on a half day walk with a local guide which will take you from our Kasbah and up to the top of the Gorges to see some spectacular views. The Loop Hike is fairly demanding, but achievable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and offers incredible desert scenery and dramatic cliff-like terrain on snaking trails that lead through high limestone wadis, along which are strung traditional Berber villages and palmeraies. On our return we can sit back and relax by the pool, soaking up the breathtaking scenery, maybe a relaxing drink and a lovely dinner.
Today we head for the Sahara Desert early in the morning, seeing the lush green oasis of Tafilalelt on the way and passing through the Kasbahs. About halfway on our route today, we can visit a Berber museum where you can learn about the history and culture of Morocco’s indigenous tribes through a large collection of Berber artifacts, clothes, jewelry, crafts and other day-to-day items.
We arrive in the Sahara in time to start a 3-hour hike through the dunes and the arid plains. We will have camels to carry our bags with an optional camel ride into the desert. We will be experiencing the real Saharan landscapes by hiking the highest dunes in Morocco and seeing the dramatic shadows and golden orange, pink, and red hues of the ever-changing Erg Chebbi. At the end of our hike we will take a camel ride to watch the sunset and return to the camp. In the evening we will listen to the silence of the desert, experience its tranquility, and contemplate its awesome vastness as you gaze at the countless millions of stars above you. Dinner at the camp is cooked by our caravan drivers tonight.
We have until midmorning to enjoy and hike the Sahara before leaving and start driving through Ziz Gorges. On our way, we will watch the changing landscape as we travel from the arid Sahara to the oasis and reservoirs, to rolling plains and, finally, the majesty of the Atlas Mountains at Ayachi Peak. At the end of the day we will hike Berrem village in the Outat valley. In the evening, we have trout fish for dinner. At the end of the day, we will return to our Kasbah overlooking the Eastern High Atlas mountains.
Today we have a very early morning start. We will transfer to the famous city of Fes, and it’s myriad of laneways. With a few hours drive through the mountains in the morning, we’ll then head into the medina as a group with our guide for a wonderful exploration.
Continue this morning with our discovery of this amazing medieval city considered to be the intellectual and spiritual heart of Morocco. It is the opportunity to see a live museum. We are going to walk, walk and walk to experience, taste, see, hear, interact with Fes medina, Fes delicacies and share 1200 years of history with its locals. We are going to explore the most preserved part of it, including its incredible alleyways, tanneries, Caravanserais, Alqaraouiyine University, Medieval medersas, handicrafts, the souks, markets and some, but not all, of the 10,000 streets! This afternoon we leave the bustling medina of Fes behind and journey north into the serene Rif Mountains, where the scenery shifts to rugged peaks, valleys dotted with olive groves, and slower village life. By afternoon we arrive in the picture-perfect town of Chefchaouen, affectionately known as “The Blue Pearl” for its dazzling blue-washed streets and buildings.
Wake up to the tranquillity of the Rif Mountains and enjoy a slower-paced day of exploration and activity. In the morning, we take a moderate hike (2–3 hours) into the hills that cradle the town, offering panoramic views across the sea of blue rooftops and the surrounding valleys. Along the way, we’ll pass small farms, terraced fields, and perhaps meet friendly locals going about daily life.
The afternoon is more relaxed, with options to suit your interests: browse through a local weaving cooperative, spend time in the main square sipping mint tea, or continue wandering Chefchaouen’s maze of photogenic laneways with time for shopping, people-watching, or quiet reflection.
This day is designed as a perfect balance of gentle activity and cultural immersion — an opportunity to soak in the unique atmosphere of one of Morocco’s most enchanting towns.
After breakfast, we bid farewell to Chefchaouen and begin our drive south to the vibrant coastal city of Casablanca (approx. 5 hours). On arrival, check into our hotel and enjoy some free time in the afternoon — you might take a gentle stroll along the Atlantic Corniche, admire the art deco architecture, or simply rest after the journey.
In the evening we come together one last time for a special farewell dinner at a local restaurant. It’s a chance to celebrate the friendships formed, the challenges undertaken, and the extraordinary landscapes and cultures we’ve shared on this journey through Morocco.
After breakfast, transfer to Casablanca airport for onward or homeward flights.
Transfers to the Airport after breakfast. Tour finish time is 10am
