Hike the Night Challenge

Fancy a challenge? This unique night hiking event will test your endurance and ability to hike through the night. Walking 28km across the Mornington Peninsula from Dromana to Cape Schanck. Your team goal is to complete the 28km and arrive in time for a well deserved sunrise breakfast! Think of the pride and sense of accomplishment at the end.

Teams of 4
There’s something special about walking under the stars so we want you to share this experience with your team. Ideally teams of 4 however if you’re wanting to enter as an individual we can allocate you to a lovely group of new friends to walk with.

What to expect
You’ll meet at Cape Schanck reserve carpark at 9:30pm, then jump on a bus to Dromana to the starting point. The walk is mainly through a bushland corridor which stretches across the peninsula back to Cape Schanck, with a range of tracks and trails and some dirt roads. You’ll experience beautiful eucalyptus forests, quaint country roads, and the coastal trails near Bushrangers Bay, all under the night sky and into the morning light. The soundtrack to your walk will be nature at its best… the still ness of the forest, the sound of the ocean as you near the coast, the chatter of walkers and the crunch of your boots. Enjoy the experience of walking under the stars, the challenge of night walking or your longest walk distance could be your goal – whatever your inspiration – our goal is to help you achieve it. End your achievement with a sunrise breakfast cooked by our guides, and a celebration of your achievement with other night hikers.

“Navigation isn’t my strong point” – no problem!
This is a semi-guided walk. There will be guides situated at safety checkpoints along the way and a guide on the trail at all times. The track is well marked and easy to follow; we also provide you with a map as a backup and so you can track your progress along the way. The walk itself is fairly gentle, with a hill at the start is a good ‘wake up’ and gets the blood pumping.

What we do and what you do
We provide safety, motivation, plenty of snacks, but it’s your job to get your team from checkpoint to checkpoint, which means you’ll need to motivate each other and work as a team. It’s not a race though! The goal is simply to enjoy yourself, stay safe and make it through the night! We take everybody’s safety seriously, and encourage people and groups to walk together.

This is a hiking event
Hike The Night is primarily a hiking based event, there is limited fanfare, no disco music in the middle of the forest or big marquee tents. We provide the safety, motivation, plenty of snacks and coffee, but it’s your job to get your team from checkpoint to checkpoint, which means you’ll need to motivate each other and stay positive. The goal is simply to revel in the opportunity to walk at night and experience the difference that this unique challenge provides.
