You Yangs – Short Hike

If you are in need of an escape from the urban landscape, and want to find yourself surrounded by stunning views then the You Yangs is the place to go. With rocky outcrops and expansive views of the coastal plains and even to the Bay, the East West Walk has been rated as one of the Top 10 Walks Around Melbourne. Starting at the carpark, we will first circumnavigate and then summit Flinders Peak, the highest Mountain in the You Yangs and surrounded by the distinctive granite peaks of the You Yangs, you will enjoy the vast volcanic plains between Melbourne and Geelong that make up this unique part of Victoria. Plus you get full panoramic views in every direction. The walk is moderately flat on the loop followed by some stairs to reach the top and is a perfect morning out.

We know that sometimes you just want to get out, catch up, have a social morning and get a little more confident on the trail. Our short walks are your best opportunity when you don’t have a whole day to spare, and we’ll have some morning snacks available to keep you going. It’s a great way to start your day, have a little exploration and get you feeling happier and healthier!

Our short hikes are usually around or less than 10km and graded 2, 3 or 4. At the easier end of the scale is a 2 and perfect for beginners and those just wanting an active social outing. They are a great way to gain confidence, meet like minded people and start a journey of hiking. Our grade 4 short hikes will have a few more undulations (hills) or just go at a quicker pace, and suitable for those with moderate to good fitness. Obviously the 3’s fit right in the middle. Remember there is always the chance of an extra TSA ‘let’s go this way’ element :).

Additional Information

What to bring
  • A drink bottle, or two bottles on a hot day
  • A small backpack
  • Medication, camera, etc…
  • Hat or beanie depending on weather
  • Walking poles if you normally carry them
  • Walking clothes suitable for the weather on the day
Food
As this is a short hike we do not provide lunch. We do provide some light snacks to fuel you along the trail. This could be orange slices, lemon slice and lollies. Please bring your own water.
