Scenic Rim

Our journey begins with a morning pickup from the Gold Coast before heading inland into the spectacular World Heritage landscapes of Lamington National Park. The cool mountain air and lush subtropical rainforest provide the perfect introduction to the Scenic Rim.
From the historic mountain retreat at Binna Burra Lodge we stretch our legs on one of the park’s beautiful walking circuits. Options include the moderate Tagablum–Yaun’s–Waterfall Creek loop, an enjoyable rainforest walk featuring creeks, birdlife and flowing waterfalls, or one of the nearby rainforest circuits depending on weather and group preference.
After our first taste of the region’s incredible walking, we continue our scenic drive south into the heart of the Scenic Rim to our accommodation at Kooralbyn Valley Resort. Surrounded by rugged mountains and wide-open landscapes, it’s the perfect base for the adventures ahead.

Today is all about mountains, views and discovering the rugged beauty that defines the Scenic Rim.
Our morning challenge is a climb up one of the region’s classic peaks — either Mount Maroon or nearby Mount May. These steep but rewarding ascents deliver spectacular panoramic views across the volcanic landscapes of the Scenic Rim and are guaranteed to get the heart pumping.
In the afternoon we change pace with a walk into the beautiful gorge known as the Lower Portals within Mount Barney National Park. This scenic track winds through forest before arriving at a series of rock pools and clear mountain water — the perfect place to relax after the morning climb.
For those with energy to spare, we may finish the day with a short sunset walk up Mount Kooralbyn, offering lovely views back across the valley and surrounding ranges.

After breakfast we head out for a rewarding morning hike in the hills above Lake Moogerah. Our primary walk is the climb to the summit of Mount Joyce, a steady ascent that rewards us with sweeping views across the lake and the surrounding ranges. Depending on conditions, an alternative option through the nearby Goan Hill trail network offers a slightly gentler but equally scenic experience.
Following our walk we enjoy a relaxed lakeside lunch beside the tranquil waters of Lake Moogerah.
The afternoon brings another spectacular Scenic Rim summit as we tackle Mount Edwards. This short but steep climb delivers some of the best views in the region, looking across the lake, farmland and distant volcanic peaks that define the landscape.
After a full day of adventure we return to Kooralbyn for a well-earned evening of relaxation

On our final morning we explore the cooler forests and waterfalls of Tamborine Mountain. Several short rainforest walks are available depending on conditions, including the beautiful circuits to Witches Falls, Curtis Falls, or the lush Palm Grove rainforest.
These gentle walks provide a relaxed and scenic finale to the tour, showcasing giant strangler figs, subtropical rainforest and flowing waterfalls.
Before heading to the airport, we’ll celebrate the end of our journey with a tasting at the iconic Tamborine Mountain Distillery — Australia’s most awarded craft distillery — with the option to enjoy lunch nearby.
From here we return to the Gold Coast Airport, wrapping up four fantastic days exploring the mountains, rainforests and hidden gems of the Scenic Rim.
