What are Beginner Hikes?
Beginner hikes are easy 3-5km morning walks where you can chat with new friends, learn more about hiking and feel a sense of accomplishment from having started.
3-5 km so you can feel comfortable
Similar walking so you can see improvements
Easy to access time and location
We want to offer you opportunities to improve your journey and enjoyment of the outdoors in an easy to access and supportive way. So whether you have fitness, injury or just simply want to feel safe in nature, then join us on one of our regular beginner walks.

OUR BEGINNER HIKES…

We understand that joining something new can be stressful and we want to assure you that this is easy. Just turn up and we’ll have you covered.
GUIDANCE
Our friendly and experienced guides will help you take the first steps with confidence, fun and ensure that you achieve your goals.
GREAT COMMUNITY
Create long-lasting connections and frendships with like-minded people. Our community is one of the largest hiking communities in Australia and keeps growing every year!
WHERE
Our beginner walks are located in and around the Darebin Parklands, and creek environs in Alphington. Itโs easy to park and you can get there by public transport.

Why join a beginner hike?
We have a lot of enquiries that start with โI donโt want to slow everyone downโ, and these walks are tailored to suit you so that you never feel left behind. Our goal is for you to feel supported as you begin a journey outside, and this starts with small wins, and a feeling of community and inclusion. Weโd love to have you join us for a Whitsunday tour or a trip to the Bay of Fires, and that journey has to start somewhere.
We hope this will enable you to achieve and ultimately smash any hike you choose! We will not only motivate you, give you tips, inspire you and show you what it is possible to achieve, introduce you to like minded people and empower you to dream big!
Where and how much?
You can book through our dedicated software called PT Minder.
This allows you to book a walk or series of walks and book in to each, and it also has an app you can download which will help with reminders further bookings. You can come once for $50, or join in a series of 6 sessions for $249 to increase the accountability.

The Kokoda Trail: 12 Things Australians Need to Know
Few journeys carry the weight of history quite like the Kokoda Trail. Stretching roughly 96 kilometres through the unforgiving Owen Stanley Range in Papua New Guinea, this iconic track was the site of one of Australia’s most defining military campaigns during World War II. Young Australian soldiers, many of them barely out of their teens,…

When Negativity Bonds Us Faster Than Positivity
We plan plenty of activities here at Take Shape Adventures, from workshops to wellbeing sessions to our standard adventures. Being a company all about people and creating these activities for public groups, we open ourselves up to feedback and unpredictability. We naturally donโt get everything right, especially with the volume of adventures we currently run.…

How to Stop Approaching Wellbeing Backwards
In positive psychology, two of the strongest predictors of long-term wellbeing are belonging and meaning. What? Itโs not productivity or achievement or comfort? In Martin Seligmanโs PERMA model, Relationships sit at the core of flourishing. Self-Determination Theory tells us relatedness, the feeling of being connected and valued, is a basic psychological need thatโs as fundamental…

The Side-Effects of Being Too Comfortable
For decades, we were fed the same messaging of what things, mostly food, we needed to fear. Fats, salt, red meat, sugar, cholesterol, even sunlight wasnโt safe from the firing line of fear mongering. This went hand in hand with the other messaging we received about safety from these fears. We needed to stay calm,…

Why “Realistic” is Overrated
The other day I was sitting in the office (as I tend to do), discussing KPI goals for Take Shape for the year ahead. Emma and I were chatting, looking back at what happened in January, what worked for us, what didnโt go so well, and what we wanted to create during the year. Me…

When Perfectionism Sneaks Back In
Last Sunday, I was getting in my usual training climb with my pack on, my breathing a little heavier than I care to admit, and my goal of Kilimanjaro sitting in the back of my mind. Sorry for those of you who are super keen to climb Kilimanjaro but havenโt managed to yet, I donโt…

Your Catch-Ups Could be Bringing You Way Closer
Think about the last time you caught up with someone you care about. You probably sat down at your favourite local cafe or restaurant (or maybe dared to try somewhere new), ordered a drink, and within minutes were replaying familiar stories. The catch up consists of the same usual updates of โHowโs work?โ and โHow…

WHY CHOOSE
TAKE SHAPE ADVENTURES
FRIENDSHIP
Most of the people that come on our tours come by themselves. Our community is built on friendships that have been made on our trips, experiencing something life changing together, the shared memories and also goals to do more in the future! We encourage people not to be anxious about coming on these trips by yourself as we promise you will leave with some like minded friends and be really glad you made the decision to get out of your comfort zone and join in.
BELONG
Our community is our backbone. We have had so many people start with no hiking experience, basic fitness and not knowing anyone on our trips. These same people have gone on to do some incredible multi day hiking trips with us and their friends they have met in our community. Witnessing the development of their fitness, confidence, experience, friendships and happiness is why we do what we do. Come join us and let us help you get from the couch to the top of the mountain!
ADVENTURE
Experiences, not things. The moments that take your breath away. The feeling of accomplishment and the realisation that you are capable of so much more than what you thought. The views that blow your mind and the ticking off of bucket list items. We take all the hard work out of it for you. We organise the lot so you can just turn up and get the best of your experience without all the headaches of organising/logistics. We make it easy for you to do all the thing you want to do โ you just need to turn up and be ready to jump into life!
