Beginner Hikes

Come and take your first step of a new adventure with us.

Why join a beginner hike?

We have a lot of enquiries that start with ‘I don’t want to slow everyone down’, and these walks are tailored to suit you so that you never feel left behind. Our goal is for you to feel supported as you begin a journey outside, and this starts with small wins, and a feeling of community and inclusion. We’d love to have you join us for a Whitsunday tour or a trip to the Bay of Fires, and that journey has to start somewhere.

We hope this will enable you to achieve and ultimately smash any hike you choose! We will not only motivate you, give you tips, inspire you and show you what it is possible to achieve, introduce you to like minded people and empower you to dream big!

What to do after your beginner hikes:

At Take Shape Adventures, we have something for everyone. From Day Hikes and Weekend Escapes to Micro Adventures and Corporate Tours.

  • Scratching the Itch You Can’t Name

Scratching the Itch You Can’t Name

There’s this itch. A vague, low hum under the surface. You can’t name it, and maybe you’ve never even tried. But you know it’s there. It reminds me of that U2 song, I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For. That lyric has stuck with me for decades. Because honestly, haven’t we all felt it?…

  • Stop Saying “Rest”. Do This Instead.

Stop Saying “Rest”. Do This Instead.

Let’s talk about rest. Because sometimes, it’s doing more harm than good. When we tell someone to “just rest”, what do we really mean? For many people, “rest” looks like collapsing on the couch, scrolling their phone, or binge-watching Netflix. But the problem is when the body is still, but the brain keeps spinning. Anxiety…

  • When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Use These Tips

When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Use These Tips

You might be wondering why there’s a picture of a golfer here in an adventure blog — especially since we don’t exactly run golf trips. Unless, of course, you count swinging a hiking pole on a mountaintop! But stick with me, because there’s a point to it.

  • The Hiking Boot Myth We All Believe

The Hiking Boot Myth We All Believe

Ask a new hiker why they wear boots and chances are they’ll say, “I need them for ankle support.” It’s a long-standing belief that boots are the safest, smartest way to hike, especially for beginners. But as someone who’s led thousands of people through wild terrain and up mountains, I can tell you something surprising:…

  • Your Kids Need to See You Uncomfortable

Your Kids Need to See You Uncomfortable

We all know the saying: monkey see, monkey do. And when it comes to parenting, nothing could be truer. Our children are watching. Constantly. Not just listening to what we say, but absorbing how we live. And when it comes to wellbeing, that’s either a gift or a ticking time bomb.

  • Positivity is Not the Answer to Uncertainty

Positivity is Not the Answer to Uncertainty

Let’s be honest, things feel a bit wobbly right now. Even if you’re not glued to the news, you’ve probably felt the rising tension. The economy, the climate, the general sense of not knowing what’s next… it all builds up. It filters into our workplaces, our families, and our sense of personal stability. And while…

  • Why We Need Challenge to Thrive: Rethinking Adult Wellbeing

Why We Need Challenge to Thrive: Rethinking Adult Wellbeing

In a world of growing burnout, constant connectivity, and increasingly commercialised wellbeing strategies, it’s time to pause and ask: what actually helps people thrive? Slowing down, taking breaks, and practising self-care are important. But the wellbeing conversation has become overly focused on comfort. What’s missing is the transformative power of discomfort, of challenge. Because the…

  • Why Not Being Sick Doesn’t Mean You’re Well

Why Not Being Sick Doesn’t Mean You’re Well

There’s a mood many of us know but can’t always name. Not depression, not burnout, just… blah. A kind of foggy, flat, unmotivated middle space where things aren’t falling apart, but they’re definitely not lighting you up. It’s that sense of aimlessness, of going through the motions, especially in the depths of winter when light…

  • The Beauty of Going the Long Way Round in the UK

The Beauty of Going the Long Way Round in the UK

There’s something about walking along the edge of a country that brings clarity, with the sea waving at you from one side and the ancient landscapes supporting you on the other. This June, I had the absolute joy of guiding more small groups along one of the most breathtaking stretches of the UK: the South…

  • When Adventure Doesn’t Go To Plan, Get Resilient

When Adventure Doesn’t Go To Plan, Get Resilient

We talk a lot about resilience in workshops, wellbeing plans, and leadership programs, but what does it actually look like when things go wrong? Well, as we all know, the highs and lows are the parts of life we recall the most, because they make the strongest emotions and memories. A lot of these memories…

  • Growth Looks Like This (And It’s Not Always Pretty)

Growth Looks Like This (And It’s Not Always Pretty)

I used to think wellbeing was about balance. Eat well, move often, sleep more, breathe deeper. You know, the usual prescriptions. And for a while, those things were enough. But over the years, especially since starting a hiking and adventure company, I’ve realised that wellbeing isn’t just about managing stress or feeling calm. It’s about…

  • Nature is Free… So Why Do We Charge for Hiking Tours?

Nature is Free… So Why Do We Charge for Hiking Tours?

This is a question I hear from time to time, not so much from the people out on the trail because they clearly already know the benefits, but from social media commenters who may not have ever experienced a paid hike before. But honestly, I get it. The trails are open to everyone, and yes,…
